GAC to launch AION UT electric hatchback in PH this May

Chinese automaker GAC International Philippines said it will launch the all-electric AION UT hatchback in the Philippine market this May as competition in the local EV segment continues to intensify.

In a statement, the company described the five-seater battery electric vehicle as a compact hatchback designed for city driving, with features aimed at younger consumers looking for a mix of design, technology, and interior space.

The AION UT has already been rolled out in markets including Australia, Thailand, Europe, and Latin America, according to GAC. The company said it expects the model to help expand its presence in the Philippine EV market.

Despite its compact size, the vehicle comes with a 2,750mm wheelbase and fold-flat rear seats intended to maximize cabin and cargo space. GAC said the model is designed to accommodate daily commuting as well as leisure travel.

The AION UT also features GAC’s “Magazine Battery” technology, a high-strength steel body structure, and fast-charging capability that can charge the battery from 30% to 80% in about 24 minutes.

The EV hatchback will be offered in four body colors — Champs-Elysees Beige, Emerald Green, Rococo White, and Seine Silver — along with a two-tone Rococo White and Emerald Green variant.

Customers may now place pre-reservations at GAC dealerships ahead of the vehicle’s official launch, the company said. GAC Philippines currently operates a network of 30 dealerships nationwide.
