Microsoft names SG exec as new PH country manager

Software titan Microsoft has appointed Caroline Foo as its country general manager for the Philippines, tasking the veteran technology executive with advancing the company’s cloud and artificial intelligence business in the country.

Foo replaces Peter Maquera, who now serves as an independent director of Aboitiz Equity Ventures and new website Rappler.

Before assuming the Philippine post, Foo was Microsoft’s enterprise commercial director for the Asean, overseeing commercial and sales organizations across the region.

She has more than 25 years of experience in the technology industry, including over 11 years at Microsoft. Her previous roles at the company covered enterprise sales, modern workplace solutions, customer and partner experience, and product marketing across Asia-Pacific.

Foo also previously held sales and public-sector positions at EMC, Samsung Electronics, Cisco, IBM, and Microsoft.

As Philippine country manager, Foo will lead Microsoft’s efforts to expand the use of AI and cloud technologies among government agencies, businesses, startups, and other organizations. Her priorities will also include AI skills development and the adoption of security and governance measures.

Microsoft said its 2026 Work Trend Index classified 25% of Filipino workers as “Frontier Professionals,” its category for the most advanced AI users, compared with the global average of 16%.

“The Philippines has the talent, the ambition and the digital momentum to lead in the AI era. The opportunity now is to help organizations match that ambition with trusted foundations, strong governance and the skills to translate AI innovation into lasting economic and social impact,” Microsoft Asean president Mayank Wadhwa said.

“Caroline knows our customers, our partners and our business across Asean, and I have every confidence in her ability to lead this next chapter for Microsoft Philippines,” he added.

Foo said the opportunity lies in applying AI to produce concrete benefits rather than treating the technology as an end in itself.

“The Philippines is one of the most inspiring markets in our region. What gives me optimism is not just the pace of AI adoption, but the thoughtfulness behind it. Across conversations with customers, partners and leaders, I see a genuine desire to harness technology in a way that amplifies human potential, strengthens trust, and creates lasting impact. The real opportunity is not AI itself. It is what people can achieve with it,” she said.

“My role is to help our customers and partners access the technology, skills and support they need to turn ambition into outcomes, and to ensure the benefits of AI reach every organization, community and learner we serve here in the Philippines,” Foo added.
