Google has rolled out Ask Maps in the Philippines, giving users a conversational way to find places, plan routes, and check road conditions through the Google Maps app.
The company is positioning the feature as particularly useful during the country’s rainy and typhoon seasons, when flooding, road closures, and traffic delays can disrupt travel.
Users can ask questions such as, “Are there any closed or flooded roads from Quezon City to BGC?” Ask Maps will summarize available real-time information, including road conditions, closures, and delay alerts. It can also indicate when a route is clear.
To access the feature, users can open the Google Maps app and tap the “Ask Maps” button below the search bar.
Ask Maps can also respond to more specific or conversational requests. For example, users stranded by heavy rain can ask for nearby restaurants that are open or request destinations that can be reached without prolonged exposure to the weather.
A user could ask, “What’s the best ramen or noodle soup place in Ortigas that I don’t have to walk in the rain for?” The tool can recommend nearby establishments and suggest routes based on the request.
Beyond weather-related travel, Ask Maps can be used to search for places based on particular preferences or prepare customized itineraries, such as a scenic three-hour road trip.
Google described Ask Maps as the biggest transformation of its mapping service in more than a decade. The Philippine rollout adds the country to markets where users can interact with Maps using natural-language questions.
