The winners of this year's SLINGSHOT x Venture Pilipinas Pitch Competition, held as part of the Opening Celebrations of the Philippine Startup Week (PHSW) 2023, were announced on Nov. 20 at the Makati Diamond Residences.

New funding deals may yet to be clinched at the Geeks On A Beach international conference on November 22 to 24 at Panglao Island in Bohol.

AHG Lab, which is said to be the largest independent venture builder in the Philippines, has secured $4 million in Pre-Series A funding which the company will use to fuel its growth, portfolio of ventures and programs, and the wider startup ecosystem.

The Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) and the University of Immaculate Concepcion (UIC) have officially unveiled the Mobilizing Advanced Research and Innovations to Advocate Nation-Building (MARIAN) Technology Business Incubator (TBI) to help the startup landscape in Davao City and the region by focusing on healthcare technologies and bridging the gap between academic research and industry. 

Among the selected businesses are three tech startups, six community enterprises, and two Shell Sponsor’s A-List.

The city government said it recognizes the startup community’s immense potential to stimulate the local economy and bring about positive change and the Startup QC Program aims to create jobs, cultivate the entrepreneurial spirit, promote innovation, and develop the city’s start-up ecosystem by providing qualified entrepreneurs with equity-free financial grants of up to P1,000,000.

Despite the decline, the report said the Philippines is making progress toward becoming a formidable startup ecosystem in the Asia Pacific region.

Shell’s partnership with Brainsparks Philippines in this gathering is in line with its mission of supporting startups that are on the cutting-edge of innovation while help strengthen local economies by promoting entrepreneurship and meaningful employment.

With over 1,000 corporate clients and 180,000 active users, the company is now in a unique position to become the most relevant B2B SaaS provider in the country.

The program, led by The Incubation Network, in partnership with the Global Plastic Action Partnership, UpLink by the World Economic Forum, and the Alliance to End Plastic Waste, have provided tailored development support for Envirotech (Philippines), Kibumi (Indonesia), Plastic People (Vietnam), Bank Sampah Bersinar (Indonesia), and TerraCycle Foundation (Thailand).
