Intel PH: Our single-core chips will trump multiple-cores of rivals

In the high-stakes battle in the mobile computing space, chipmaker Intel is determined to strengthen its campaign that it isn’t the size or quantity that matters but the performance when it comes to core processors in wireless devices.

Intel Philippines country manager Calum Chisholm

Calum Chisholm, country manager of Intel Philippines, said the company will continue to train partners and hold showcase events in an attempt to convince consumers that their latest core processors perform better than the dual-core or quad-core mobile processors from companies like ARM and Samsung.

“Over time, consumers will understand that it’s not just having multi-cores that is important but also the performance,” Chisholm said in an interview during the company’s media briefing on Intel Experience Zone (IEZ), a series of events showcasing popular consumer IT devices powered by Intel.

IEZ, which kicked off on Friday at the SM Megamall in Pasig City and Festival Mall in Filinvest, Alabang will run until October 9 and 10 respectively.

Intel through IEZ seeks to give mall goers the chance to experience a wide range of devices powered by Intel — from notebooks, Ultrabooks and tablets to All-in-Ones (AIOs), 2-in-1s and smartphones — and to show them on how to make the most out of their lives using technology.

Chisholm said through the IEZ and the media, Intel aims to get the message across that the company’s single core can match or even outdo the performance of other brands using multi-cores.

The executive added that aside from performance, using a single core can make the battery life of devices to be longer.

“The first-time buyers [of IT devices] are the target of Intel in the Philippines,” Chisholm said, noting Intel will bring convergence across leading brands and Philippine brand devices as well.

Among the IT brands being showcased in the IEZs are Acer, Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Polaroid, Samsung, Sony and Toshiba.

Chisholm, however, said Intel has yet to announce the names of its local brand partners.

“Brands with low price Android-based and also Windows-based are working with Intel,” Chisholm said.

Intel has launched its latest product innovations in the Philippines last May and July of this year such as the Z2580, Z2560, and Z2520 Atom processors and the 4th generation Intel Core processors.

The Atom processors, built on Intel’s 32-nanometer process technology, were designed for smartphones and tablets to deliver dual-core performance.
