Villorente will assume the newly created post alongside his role as director of the Advanced Science and Technology Institute (ASTI) of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST).

Villorente is already the project director for the DOST’s flagship e-government initiative, the Integrated Government Philippines (iGovPhil) Project.

iGovPhil takes a whole-of-government approach to the connectivity and IT requirements of government agencies and offices.

“The campaign for ?a smarter government, and a smarter Philippines? through the use of technology can only be achieved if people in and out of government will embrace the initiative,? Villorente said in a statement.

The official said the support of the citizens and agencies is crucial in achieving harmonization in government ICT use as laid out in the eGovernment Master Plan.

?With the support of agencies, we aim to enable government services through harmonization and integration of processes, data, and infrastructure within government.

?In the end, we want to become a more competitive Philippines which translates to more jobs and income, improved productivity and better health and welfare for our citizens? Villorente said.

He said eGovernment allows for more efficient, effective, transparent and accountable governance and delivery of public services through the use of ICT.

With eGovernment, Villorente said more government services will be available online and will minimize the tedious need to queue for government services that usually take hours of citizen’s valuable time.

As part of the ICT Office’s recently completed rationalization, the agency is also hiring a total of 16 third level Director I and II positions for deployment in its field operation offices and five Director IV positions to be assigned to oversee the ICT Office’s various services.

The ICT office is also looking to fill up more than 300 staff level (level 1 and 2) positions. Interested applicants can visit www.icto.dost.gov.ph for more details.
