The government, led by the Department of Tourism, staged recently a lighting and video mapping show at the historic Aguinaldo Shrine in Kawit, Cavite.
The event served as the formal turnover of the permanent lighting of the Aguinaldo Shrine, as well as the final public viewing of the video mapping display.
The lighting and video mapping show was opened to the public on a limited run since June 11, with three shows running every night at 7:30PM, 8:30PM, and 9:30PM.
The national heritage site was seen in a completely new light through an audio-visual staging that made use of video mapping technology, also known as projection mapping, spatial augmented reality, or the use of digitally-produced images based on the architectural lines of a structure to tell a story, create an impression, and bring any structure to life.
Angelo Aguinaldo, curator of the Aguinaldo Shrine, shared that an estimated 24,000 visitors were received at the grounds for the video mapping and for the museum tour held from June 11-15, with June 12 recording the highest volume at 7,000. Video clips and images from the video mapping show have also been shared and generating buzz on social media.
The DOT envisions the lighting and video mapping show project to raise the standard for lighting and presentation of monuments, heritage sites, and buildings around the country. Other similar projects that include the permanent lighting of the Walled City of Intramuros are now being seriously considered and discussed.
Among those who attended the who graced inaugural show included Senator Loren Legarda; Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Dinky Soliman; descendants of former President Emilio Aguinaldo led by Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya and Kawit Vice Mayor Paul Abaya; National Museum executive director Jeremy Barns; and DOT secretary Ramon R. Jimenez Jr. together with officials from the DOT and attached agencies.
Also present were representatives from the Embassy of Japan, the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), Local Government Unit (LGU) of Kawit and Provincial Government of Cavite.
Several tourism industry stakeholders were also in attendance such as Tourism Congress of the Philippines Chairperson Rosanna Fores, Philippine Tour Operators Association (PHILTOA) RP committee head Clang Garcia, Heritage Conservation Society (HCS) president Ivan Henares and Funtastic Philippines
