Report: 46% of Pinoys using AI tools in their work

In the age of AI, Filipinos are anticipating significant impacts on their jobs and careers, although most are also willing to embrace AI in the workplace.

This is according to a study titled “Decoding Global Talent Report 2024” that was conducted by Jobstreet by SEEK in collaboration with the Boston Consulting Group and The Network.

The survey surveyed 150,735 respondents globally, including 6,400 Filipino employees across 26 industries.

The use of AI technology is gradually being integrated into the lives of Filipino workers. Among those surveyed, 46% reported using generative AI (GenAI) monthly, either in the office or for personal use.

This percentage is higher than both the Southeast Asia (SEA) average of 44% and the global average of 39%. The age group most favorable toward adopting GenAI is comprised of individuals aged 18-24, with 64% in favor, while support decreases in older age groups.

The study found that the highest utilization of generative AI occurs in the digitalization and data sciences industry (71%) and the information technology (IT) sector (65%).

Half of the respondents indicated that the primary use of generative AI is for writing tasks, while 58% use it for skill development and learning.

Among the Filipinos interviewed, 82% believe that AI will change some aspects of their work. Additionally, 35% of Filipino workers expect significant changes to their careers, with concerns that AI might eliminate certain positions within companies.

The demographic most worried about the impacts of AI includes craft and physical labor workers (56%), while technical engineering workers report the least concern, with only 20-30% expressing worries.

The job search process has also been transformed by AI, with 74% of Filipinos willing to stay relevant by utilizing AI technology. In contrast, 24% of respondents consider reskilling only when absolutely necessary.

These shifts also impact employers, prompting the study’s recommendation that companies anticipate talent needs, attract suitable candidates, develop their workforce, and engage employees effectively.

To help more people secure jobs, Jobstreet by SEEK has incorporated AI technology into its platform. This integration enhances the return on investment (ROI) for employers through various hiring products like “Free Lite Ads,” “Paid Job Ads,” “Employer Branding,” and “Talent Search.”

With the help of AI technology, ad writing has become easier, allowing for better talent attraction and more precise matching, as reflected in the platform’s performance, over 50% of applications come from recommendations.

Managing applications has been improved by eliminating link-out ads and keeping operations centralized within the site, and analytics are also available to monitor ad and account performances.  Applicants also enjoy streamlined application procedures, whether on mobile or desktop devices.

Dannah Majarocon, managing director of Jobstreet by SEEK in the Philippines, stated that AI should not be feared. She emphasized that “through proper reskilling and upskilling, AI can serve as a reliable tool for improving the way companies and organizations process their output, as well as enhancing efficiency among talent.”
