Online learning platform Coursera has unveiled a suite of new artificial intelligence (AI)-driven tools and features aimed at transforming how learners access and engage with education worldwide.
The announcement was made during the Coursera Connect Learning Expo on Oct. 9, where Ashutosh Gupta, Coursera’s managing director for India and the Asia-Pacific region, led a discussion on the company’s latest innovations.
Among the key developments is Coursera’s integration with ChatGPT, enabling users to access Coursera’s educational content directly through OpenAI’s conversational interface.
The partnership marks the first instance of an online learning platform operating as an app within ChatGPT, making courses, videos, and resources more accessible to learners globally.
Coursera also introduced Skills Tracks, a data-driven feature designed to align learning pathways with in-demand job skills. Powered by Coursera’s proprietary Career Graph, the system analyzes millions of labor market data points to connect specific roles with the skills and courses needed to fill them.
To help learners explore content before enrolling, Coursera has launched a course preview experience, giving users free access to the first module of most courses, including graded assignments and support from Coursera Coach, an AI-powered tutor.
The company is also enhancing interactivity through a new Role Play tool, which allows users to practice soft skills using AI personas in simulated real-world scenarios. Educators can customize these exercises and provide personalized feedback based on course outcomes.
For educators, Coursera has expanded its AI-powered Course Builder, streamlining content creation and helping partner institutions produce high-quality learning materials faster.
To further broaden access, Coursera introduced localized pricing for Filipino learners. Professional Certificates and Specializations now start at $20 per month — a 60% reduction — while Coursera Plus subscriptions are priced at $24 monthly or $160 annually. Individual courses now cost $31, representing a 35% decrease.
Gupta commended the Philippines for advancing digital and skills development through initiatives such as those led by CHED, TESDA, the Philippine Development Plan 2023–2028, and the National AI Strategy Roadmap.
He said these efforts are “building the right infrastructure for Filipinos to acquire the skills needed in an AI-driven economy.”
