Enterprise adoption of AI-capable personal computers is accelerating as organizations shift from experimentation to deployment and prepare for the next phase of artificial intelligence, according to an IDC white paper.
The study, sponsored by Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), found that more than eight in 10 organizations are already deploying, piloting, or planning to adopt AI PCs in the near term, reflecting a broader move to embed AI into day-to-day operations.
IDC said 70% of organizations expect so-called “agentic AI” — systems that can autonomously plan and execute tasks — to influence employee workflows within the next two years.
“We commissioned IDC to conduct a global survey of more than 500 IT and business decision-makers across the United States, Japan, France, the United Kingdom and Germany,” AMD said.
The survey showed that 81% of organizations are engaged in planning, piloting, or deploying AI PCs, while 61% are already integrating AI into workflows. Around 59% cited high-performance neural processing units (NPUs) as critical to enabling next-generation AI applications.
Respondents also reported operational gains from AI PCs, with 70% citing faster performance and lower latency, 66% noting higher employee productivity, and 58% pointing to improved data security from on-device AI processing.
IDC said the rise of agentic AI is changing the role of the PC, turning it from a traditional productivity tool into a platform for interacting with and running AI systems locally.
“As enterprises move from AI experimentation to scaled deployment, AI adoption is entering a new phase, reshaping how organizations approach infrastructure and enabling more real-time, intelligent workflows,” the report said.
The shift reflects a broader trend toward processing AI workloads closer to the user or endpoint, as companies seek faster response times and greater control over data.
AMD said its enterprise-focused platforms are designed to support this transition by combining on-device AI acceleration with security and manageability features.
The report noted that as adoption scales, organizations are also addressing challenges related to security, integration with existing IT systems, and manageability.
IDC said the transition to agentic AI marks a turning point for enterprise computing, with companies investing in AI-ready systems expected to be better positioned for future developments in AI-driven workflows.
