The University of the Philippines (UP) reported a total of 113 innovation ventures and initiatives as of 2025, alongside 1,428 intellectual property (IP) registrations, according to data from its Technology Transfer and Business Development Office (TTBDO).
The figures also showed 45 technology licenses, 24 spinoff companies, 68 technology transfer leads, and 152 innovation partners working with the university.
“These data show where the heart of UP is, with the Filipino people,” UP president Angelo Jimenez said. “They are the result of our collective and conscious efforts to remain true to our mandate as a public service university. We focus on innovations that matter most to our people,” he added.
By sector, most ventures were concentrated in health (34), agri-aqua and food (25), and climate and environment (10).
Technology licensing activity was led by agri-aqua and food and health, with 20 licenses each, followed by climate and environment with four.
Meanwhile, technology transfer leads were highest in agri-aqua and food (27), followed by health (20) and climate and environment (7).
UP’s cumulative innovation pipeline spans eight sectors and has generated outputs across multiple clusters, including biopharmaceuticals, smart agriculture, biomedical devices, and functional foods.
A breakdown of IP registrations showed 378 patents, 296 utility models, 260 trademarks, 61 industrial designs, and three trade secrets.
The data were presented on May 5 during a media briefing ahead of the Inoblasyon: The UP Innovation Summit 2026.
