GAC electric hatchback launches in PH at under P1 million

Chinese automaker GAC Group has launched the all-electric GAC Aion UT hatchback in the Philippines as it expands its electric vehicle lineup in the local market.

GAC Philippines said the Aion UT is positioned as a compact five-seater EV hatchback designed for urban driving, with the company highlighting its spacious interior, advanced driver assistance systems, and fast-charging capability.

The vehicle comes with a 2,750mm wheelbase and 905mm rear legroom, features that the company said provide more cabin space than competing hatchbacks in its class.

Safety and driver assistance features include Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Warning, and a 360-degree camera system.

“We are thrilled to bring another global hit from GAC’s line of innovations to the Philippines through the AION UT,” said Steven Wang, senior vice president of GAC International.

“This milestone allows us to further serve and diversify our brand offerings in the local mobility scene. We are confident that the AION UT will bolster dynamic, safe, and sustainable driving for Filipinos upon its entry this 2026.”

The Aion UT Elite variant is powered by a 100-kW permanent magnet synchronous motor producing 136 PS and 180 Nm of torque. It uses a 47.1-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery and supports DC fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 30% to 80% in about 30 minutes, according to the company.

Inside, the vehicle features an 8.88-inch LCD instrument cluster and a 14.6-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.

The hatchback also offers 24 storage compartments, a 440-liter cargo area, and vehicle-to-load capability that allows the car to power electronic devices externally.

The Aion UT Elite is priced at P998,000, inclusive of a P50,000 introductory discount valid until June 30, 2026. An additional P20,000 discount will be offered for the first 400 units sold.

GAC Philippines said reservations are now open at its dealerships nationwide. The company currently operates a network of 30 dealerships in the country and offers EV warranties of up to eight years or 160,000 kilometers.
