GoTyme Bank has directly integrated its account-opening system with the Philippine Identification System, allowing customers to verify their identities without scanning or uploading physical identification documents.
The digital bank said its system-level connection to the Philippine Statistics Authority’s National ID Authentication Services, or NIDAS, could reduce account opening to as little as five minutes.
Customers can verify their identity through the QR code on a physical, digital, or paper PhilSys ID; their PhilSys Card Number; or their name and date of birth.
While financial institutions already accept the PhilSys ID as valid identification, GoTyme said the direct integration allows it to authenticate customer information against government records in real time and remove the document-capture stage from the application process.
“With our direct integration into the National ID Authentication Services, GoTyme Bank can verify a customer’s identity against official government records in real time, making account opening simpler, faster, and more secure,” GoTyme Bank chief strategy and proposition officer Shern Teo said.
“What this means is the ability to open a GoTyme Bank account in as little as five minutes, with fewer steps. We are simplifying banking and making it easier for more Filipinos to access the financial services they need, unlocking the full potential of every Filipino.”
GoTyme said the arrangement could make digital banking more accessible to people who lack other accepted IDs or have limited access to physical bank branches, including overseas Filipino workers and residents of remote areas.
More than 94 million Filipinos have registered with PhilSys, according to figures cited by the bank.
The integration also illustrates how the national ID system can function as digital infrastructure for financial services instead of serving only as a physical identification document.
