The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) issued the memorandum apparently due to continuing complaints that some banks refuse to recognize the national ID as proof of identity because the card itself does not display the person’s signature.
The activity, which involved PhilID and ePhilID holders processing their civil registry documents, enabled identity verification through scanning of the fingerprint through biometric authentication devices for the real-time matching process of information to the PhilSys Registry.
The PSA also assured that the PhillDs affected by the Manila Central Post Office last May 2023 were only for registered persons residing in Manila, and that other lDs for delivery were unaffected by the fire.
Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian made the call amid continuing complaints that some banks refuse to recognize the national ID as proof of identity because the card itself does not display the person's signature.
The downloadable version of the ePhilID provides registered persons access to a PDF copy of their ePhilID, which they can store on their mobile devices.
As of March 15, a total of 60,326,990 IDs have been printed — 33,550,575 of which are PhilIDs dispatched for delivery to registered persons, while 26,776,415 are ePhilIDs printed at registration centers.
Starting Feb. 23, Filipinos who wish to register to PhilSys can head to any registration center and would no longer need to pre-register through online Step 1 website.
The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) said it has delivered more than 30.5 million PhilIDs, also known as national IDs, after printing a combined total of 50.26 million PhilIDs and ePhilIDs as of Jan. 31, 2023.
