Data from Ookla’s Speedtest Intelligence shows that Starlink now accounts for more than 97% of global satellite broadband usage, with the Philippines emerging as one of its top six markets worldwide in terms of user activity and testing volume.

Latency measures how fast data travels across a network, with lower latency translating to quicker response times — a critical factor for mobile gaming, livestreaming, and other real-time online activities.

According to the monthly measure produced by Netflix -- recording which ISPs provide the best prime time Netflix streaming experience -- Converge ranked No. 1 with a speed of 3.0 Mbps in December 2023, together with a local service provider.

For devices, Ooklas said an analysis of performance on some of the fastest phones in Philippines found that there was no statistical winner during the third quarter of 2023.

In its report, the Philippines trails behind Malaysia, but is ahead of Indonesia and Laos, when it comes to broadband speeds.

Awarded the “Best ISP Video Experience in the Philippines” for the second half of 2022 during the Ookla Speedtest Award, Converge finished at the top with an overall 80.99 video score.

According to Ookla, only a handful of companies in the world have won award and that PLDT is the second ISP to accomplish the feat.

Mobile metrics firm Ookla said based on its latest Speedtest Intelligence report, PLDT-owned Smart Communications delivered the fastest median download speed at 33.39 Mbps for the first quarter of 2023.

Converge scored high on five key categories of the Ookla speedtest.

Smart delivered the fastest median download speed at 32.16 Mbps, followed by Globe with 12.30 Mbps, and DITO at 17.66 Mbps.
