Accenture PH gets gender equality certification, says it is part of innovation strategy

The Philippine office of IT-BPM global firm Accenture recently became the first local company  to be awarded with the EDGE Move Certification for promoting inclusiveness and gender equality in its workplace.

Lito T. Tayag, country managing director for Accenture in the Philippines

The certification was handed out by the Economic Dividends for Gender Equality (EDGE), a global assessment methodology and business certification standard for gender equality.

Of the 50,000 employees working in Accenture?s Metro Manila, Cebu, and Ilocos offices, 52% are females.

Gender equality and inclusion is actually part of the company?s innovation and transformation journey, according to Lito T. Tayag, country managing director for Accenture in the Philippines.

Having a good mix of males and females among its workforce brings some unique perspectives, he added.

?[Gender equality] is not only at entry level,? Tayag emphasized. ?We are able to sustain [it] all the way to the executive level, and in fact all the way to the managing directors level.?

Not only are female employees able to fill several vacancies or assume high-level roles in the company, including technology-intensive positions; they have also proven to be at par with, if not better than their male counterparts.

?If it?s 52% females, that means there are more females who are more capable, in general,? said Tayag. ?It?s something that we?re very proud of. The capability for any of our technologies is open and is the same for either males or females.?

But beyond having the right capabilities, Tayag elaborated that this is also because Accenture provides workers with excellent benefits, the latest of which is the parental-leave benefits package which took effect on December 1, 2018.  The package expands the leave benefits of fathers, life or common-law partners, adoptive parents and secondary caregivers, by giving them options tailor fit for specific situations including adoption cases.

In 2015, the company extended maternity leave benefits to 120 calendar days.

With these benefits, employees get to work at an environment which encourages them to fulfill family responsibilities and at the same time pushes them to move up the corporate ladder, explained Tayag.

?We have the most diversified set of offerings for our clients and therefore the most diversified set of career options for the people, in technology, operations as well as in corporate functions,? he said.

Aside from  driving inclusion and gender equality, Accenture?s Philippine office is forging its own innovation and transformation path by rebranding itself from being a delivery center to an  Accenture Advanced Technology Center and  Accenture Intelligent Operations Center.

Furthermore, the company has also started re-tooling and upskilling its workforce based on advancements in technology. From September 2017 to August 2018, Accenture PH has logged in more than 2 million learning hours across its three sites.
