Despite supply constraints, Supermicro sees PH demand for AI servers growing

Hardware supplier Supermicro is seeing growing demand for AI servers in the Philippines as enterprises and government agencies invest in artificial intelligence infrastructure, although supply constraints and longer delivery times remain challenges for the industry.

The US-based company, which has been operating in the Philippines through its local partner VST ECS for about six years now, supplies servers, storage systems, cooling equipment, and GPU-based infrastructure for AI workloads.

Dominic Tria, Supermicro’s sales director for the Philippines, said the company has expanded beyond hardware manufacturing to offer data center design and related professional services through its local partner.

The company also provides GPU-based systems for AI factories, which serve as the computing infrastructure for training and running AI models.

Alex Vergara, a product manager for Supermicro at VST ECS Philippines, said the company benefits from its partnership with Nvidia, which supplies GPUs used in AI servers.

Supermicro also supports systems built around processors from Intel and AMD, allowing customers to select components based on their computing requirements.

Edgar Contreras, sales and marketing manager for Supermicro at VST ECS Philippines, said the Supermicro business recorded more than 200% incremental growth, driven largely by demand for AI servers.

He added that the company has been receiving allocations for AI server projects through its relationship with Nvidia.

Despite the demand, the executives acknowledged constraints in the supply of hardware components, including memory and storage drives. Longer lead times have affected procurement, prompting some suppliers to shorten quotation validity periods to about two weeks because of changing costs and availability.

Supermicro said its manufacturing footprint, which includes facilities in the US, the Netherlands, Taiwan, and Malaysia, helps it respond to demand.

The company cited its deployment of GPU infrastructure for SpaceX as an example of its ability to deliver large-scale systems within compressed timelines.

In the Philippines, Supermicro is positioning itself as an alternative to established server and data center brands, including HPE and Dell, by offering competitive pricing, flexible configurations, and systems designed for specific workloads.

The company also sees opportunities in the public sector, particularly among agencies that need substantial computing and data processing capacity.

While Supermicro has yet to establish a local corporate entity, VST ECS provides local sales and technical support through certified engineers.

The executives said the partnership is expected to support further growth in the Philippine market over the next two to three years as more organizations move from planning AI projects to deploying the infrastructure needed to run them.
